About the Mountain

The Colle delle Finestre is located in the Cottian Alps, in the Italian region of Piemonte. The signature feature of the Colle Delle Finestre, that sets it apart from some other climbs, is that it has only a gravel surface road on the uppermost section of the climb.

In 2018 the Colle Delle Finestre was the Cima Coppi (the highest point) in the Giro d'Italia.

In the 2018 Giro d'Italia Chris Froome made a lone breakaway 80km from the finish line. This was a mammoth effort, not seen since Andy Schlek's long breakaway in the 2011 Tour de France to the summit finish on the Galibier. Team Sky had planned this solo attack to try to claw back the time that had been lost in previous stages. Members of Team Sky were spaced out all along the 80km stretch to keep Chris Froome fed and hydrated.
