About the Design
The black kit base remained in the 2012 season for team sky. The blue colour along with white rounded out the now well established colour palette.
For the most part the kit did not differ very much from previous season's. The panel of blue across the chest and the minimal blue detail on the collar remained. The Sky logos are still rendered in white on the black or blue background. The adidas 3 stripes, a strong design detail, are still in evidence down the sleeves and sides of the bibshorts. The strength of the Adidas branding is demonstrated by 3 simple white stripes on black instantly being recognisable and identifying the brand so effortlessly.
The back of the jersey has a white panel with the thin blue line down the middle. The other main sponsor logos are once again rendered in white on the upper chest above the blue chest panel. The sky logo is present in various places on the jersey and bibshorts, really standing out with the high contrast of white on black.
The only other colour on the kit, apart from the flags of the riders home nation, is the small touch of red of the IG Markets and Pinarello logos.
A special version of the kit was produced to mark Bradley Wiggin's win in the tour. The familiar blue was substituted with yellow on this variant.
Another minimalist kit for this season but this minimal approach is one of its design strengths.
2012 was the final year Adidas produced the kit for Sky. For the 2013 season Rapha would take over kit duties.
